Only Curls | Top Styling Tips For Curly Haired Brides

Put the straighteners down, curly bride. Not only does the aisle call for the best hair day of your life (no pressure then) but it requires your natural curls to be, basically, in the best shape of their life. Luckily for you, we’ve sourced some of the best tips and tricks from Only Curls founder, Lizzie Carter, for curly brides to not only add to their wedding day hair prep list, but to implement on the day itself.

Only Curls

Conceived with the aim of inspiring others to embrace their natural curls, founder Lizzie Carter kickstarted Only Curls back in 2016 packing orders at her kitchen table. The small, London-based company is not only passionate about curly hair, but understands the special care that your coils, spirals, waves or voluminous twists require. In addition to this, brides can rest assure that Only Curls’ styling products are packed with natural, nourishingly ingredients which penetrate and hydrate the hair, and all of their items are tested on their own curls, not animals.

#1 For curly-haired brides, what would your advice be when it comes to choosing a style for the aisle?

“I love curly up-dos for brides. Either fully-up, or half-up. It’s so pretty and whimsical and perfect to then accessorise with flowers.”

#2 When it comes to prepping curly hair for the big day what would you suggest? Should brides be washing their hair the night before?

“Washing and styling the night before will take some stress away from the morning. Wearing a satin bonnet will protect the curls overnight for your wedding day.

#3 For styling curly hair for the aisle, what products do you suggest and why?

“I would suggest a strong hold gel like our Mega Hold Gel for long lasting curls on your big day! If you do choose to wash the night before, use a little of this along with some water in the morning, and it’ll refresh your curls and add extra hold and shine.”

#4 When it comes to keeping the condition of curls tip top, why should brides choose your cleanser and conditioner?

“We always recommend sulphate free cleansers for curly hair. We use gentler alternatives in our cleansers which are kinder on curls and don’t strip the hair of it’s natural oils. Curly hair is typically more dry as the oils aren’t able to travel easily down the spirally hair shaft.”

#5 In terms of sustainability, is this important to you as a brand?

It’s so important to both us and our customers. We are conscious of the waste a company like ours creates and we have moved away from all single use plastic on our accessories, we use paper packing/shipping materials, and have opted for bio plastic for our bottles which are also fully recyclable. We are looking at how we can make further improvements.”

It’s so important too, that brides feel and look like themselves on the big day. No one wants to look back in 10 years time and think: ‘I don’t look like myself at the alter’. Embrace your natural curls and the texture that comes with them.

Your bridal hair stylist will also be able to nudge you in the right direction as to what wedding hair styles make the most of your curls and their structure, and there’s a whole host of hair accessories out there that will highlight your tumbling, shapely tresses.
