An Icelandic Love Story | Emma-Jane Photography

“An adventurous love story in one of the most romantic and dynamic landscapes. I wanted to show simple, raw love.” Emma-Jane Photography

When it comes to planning a wedding, often our aim is to control every element – from the delicate, pale ecru tone of our chosen table linens to the arrival of our entertainment. One thing we can’t control however, is the weather. Interestingly, here at Your Day, we feel there lies a silver lining in this uncontrollable, sometimes rather rebellious aspect of your wedding day. React negatively to a downpour and it may indeed cast a dark shadow on your celebrations, but embrace it and the opportunities for stirring wedding photographs are surprisingly fruitful.

London-based, international wedding photographer, Emma-Jane Photography expertly picks at this thread with her latest editorial. Set in Iceland, it is amongst the beauty of this desolate landscape that a bride and groom are captured exchanging vows in a seemingly out-of-this-world elopement. “It is a very unpredictable place and a lot of our plans changed which is one of the most exciting things with an adventure elopement. It means going with the flow and getting down and dirty with the weather! We had rain, wind and super cold temperatures,” explains photographer, Emma-Jane. Alongside this ever-changing element, it was the incredible landscapes of this unique place that drew Emma-Jane to Iceland, where, as she confides to Your Day, “the couples love and the backdrop alone does all of the talking.”

“After the year that had been super crazy in the UK, it was great to see the wedding industry have a massive year. Sadly, however, destination weddings were one of the last to come back – with most of my 2021 destination weddings moved again to 2022. I wanted to bring back the adventure elopement with just the couples love, passion for adventure, and involvement with the elements. We had short windows of times for each location and the changing weather conditions making things ever the more fun!”

“Like many of the elopements where couples look to book a photographer and just elope with just the two of them we kept the styling simple. With a boho dress, ice queen style headpiece and dried flower bouquet with cooler tones to match the landscape. I also wanted a natural suit with the earthy tones. Hair and makeup done by the couple themselves.”
