The Jewellery Collection we can’t get Enough of | Sumba from Freya Rose

The latest jewellery drop from Freya Rose has us swooning. Offering her own take on chunky gold accessories, the new Sumba line weaves an ancient craft with modern sensibilities. Transforming something of a trend into something truly timeless.

It’s safe to say Freya Rose knows how to accessorise. Since setting up her brand with a loan from the Prince’s Trust back in 2010, her jewellery and shoe designs have not only gathered awards (and plenty of them), but they’ve also styled the likes of The Princess of Wales, Kate Moss and Kathryn Ryan to name a few.

Where the British designer has previously focused on highlighting the natural charm of Mother of Pearl in her jewellery pieces however, Sumba hones in on the beauty of metal and wire work.

Creating something that feels bold, brawny and yet wonderfully intricate in equal measure, Freya takes on the chunky gold movement, adding her hand-crafted flair to nine key pieces. Featuring in the 18ct gold line up are two bracelets, two necklaces, a pair of drop earrings and a number of hoop earrings.

Despite the variety of designs, the entire Sumba collection experiments with an ancient weaving technique from the namesake island.

Freya has worked alongside Balinese artisans for some time now, but Sumba marks her first personal ode to the Indonesian island. Inspired by Sumba’s indigenous woven and coiled wire technqiues, the designs celebrate the centuries worth of craftsmanship and artistry embedded into this craft.

Individually, each of the nine pieces sit alone. A statement of their own. But when paired together, they tell a bigger story.

“In a fast, modern world where globalisation degrades ancient practices, and often exploits those involved in the process, I believe it’s essential to use our voice for positive influence and encourage our community to invest in quality design and craftsmanship they’ll treasure forever; the antithesis of fast-fashion,” says Freya Rose Archer, designer and founder.

Of all the new designs, the Sumba Versatile trio of a bracelet, earrings and necklace are of particular note. Depending on your desired style, these can be worn either as a uniformed flat chain or, when shaken out, as an intricate textured chain (as pictured above).
