Our Favourite Linen Styles for a Sustainable Summer Wardrobe

As your summer wardrobe starts to defrost, it’s time to spruce up your everyday looks with a material as sustainable as it is stylish. Yes, the season of linen returns and we couldn’t be more excited for this fabric’s much awaited reprise.

Not only is linen breathable, lightweight and long lasting, it’s also a more conscious choice when it comes to seasonal selects. Why? Linen is a natural fibre derived from the entire flax plant, which makes it one of the least wasteful and most biodegradable textiles out there.

While years of past have seen linen largely manifest in the form of wide leg trousers, 2024 is proving that this is a material as versatile as its rivals. This season, brands are interpreting this material in new and exciting forms – from slouchy co-ords to dress up or down, to sleek suits fit for the office. But to get your linen shop started, we round-up our favourite pieces you need for a more sustainable summer.

1. Baukjen

There’s nothing worse than suffering the summer sun in the office under the stifling layers of a suit. A linen one however? Well, it’s a game changer. Inspired by fashion icons of the 90s, with effortless silhouettes that ooze cool and casual all at the same time, B-Corp Baukjen is a no brainer if you’re in the market for a linen two piece.

2. arkitaip

Where linen was once the staple of the earth-toned lovers, today brands are upping the vibrancy with pops of colour to blend into the brightest of wardrobes. Embracing minimalist silhouettes in rich berry tones for the summer months, arkitaip triumphs with styles designed in London and lovingly crafted in Portugal.

3. Má + Lin

A seasonless approach to design makes Má + Lin’s co-ord one to keep in your capsule closet year round. Finished with the brand’s signature Peter Pan collar – an ode to founder Yue’s time as a fashion buyer in Paris – this new release comes in a gorgeous jade colourway that sits as beautifully on the beach as it does at a picnic in the woods.

5. Loual

In addition to home textiles, London-based LOUAL offer a collection of Irish linen clothing – including unisex co-ords that can go from day to night with simple accessory switches. By day, run around in the wide leg trouser and shirt duo with a pair of Gazelles, and by night, a kitten heel and pair of chunky gold earrings will elevate your look for those after work drinks.

6. With Nothing Underneath

The versatility of a good old white shirt is not to be sniffed at. In fact, this is one we really recommend investing in as you’ll pull it from your wardrobe time and time again – so quality is key. Our pick? With Nothing Underneath finds that sweet spot between a boxy boyfriend fit and carefully tailored accents. Though available in a range of colours, white is a non-negotiable for your capsule curation.
