Fuelled by her love for nature and it’s ever-enchanting wares, and influenced by her Grandmother’s creative spirit and encouragement, designer Liliana is determined to bring brides the fairy-tale gown they’ve always dreamed of. Your Day caught up with the designer herself to chat all things couture…
#1 How was Eve Couture conceived? What prompted you to start the atelier?
“It was a big challenge to start the atelier. I have been working in the fashion industry for many years and everything became easy for me to do, so I decided to try and launch my own brand, why not. I have been collaborating with other designers through my Atelier, in order to create a budget for my first collection.
I don’t know how other designers started but I slept in the atelier to put all this together and yes, I’m the seamstress as well! I sew all the dresses myself including all hand embroidery, same goes for pattern work, everything. But the big challenge was the Covid Pandemic, I always thought that this first collection could have been bigger, but because of the Pandemic, I had to work on a very tight budget.”
#2 Have you always been interested in tailoring and bridal design? Tell us more about your history…
“Collaborating with other designers made me realise that I love what I’m doing, I love to put happiness on a bride’s face and I also love the craftsmanship that goes into a tailored design. The EVEning collection is designed for wedding guests.
My Grandmother was a very special person to me, she was the kindest person in the world, she would always advise me wisely. Even now, sometimes I see her in my creations, I see her garden full of flowers and I hear all the time her VOICE saying “DO SOMETHING WITH YOUR LIFE!” It’s like she is with me in the atelier saying, “do that” or “you need to improve on that, don’t give up ,stay strong” or “put yourself together”. I miss her so much!!”
#3 How did the name Eve Couture come about?
“Eve came from my daughter, Evelyne, and Couture – I’m a perfectionist, I like the garment to fit perfectly the person who wears it and I don’t like to produce a lot of clothing, just a few special pieces.”
#4 Talk us through what a typical working day consists of for you…
“A working day for me – so I start on preparing my kids for school, I love to be a mum too! Then I have my morning coffee in the atelier checking my emails, orders, and requests. Then I start working in the atelier, helping my team around or taking meetings, organising delivery or working on new designs.”
#5 When starting a new collection or design – where does your inspiration often stem from?
“I grew up with my grandparents, they lived near a forest, there was an entire paradise, I like to dream and my creations are inspired from fairy tales – every design has its own story. Every bride who chooses an Eve-Couture piece, chooses a part of our fairy tale and she becomes a small part of our story.”
#6 Which of your bridal designs are proving particularly popular?
“First is Daneriss dress and Cape. Second is Aphrodite dress.”
#7 Does your atelier take sustainable measures when it comes to sourcing materials and the general running of the business?
“We use natural fabrics like silk and cotton and we operate on a made-to-order business model to avoid overproduction.”
#8 What’s your advice to brides searching for their wedding dress?
“Their dress has to tell a story and turn their big day into a real fairy-tale. We want them to feel spectacular walking down the aisle in our romantic bridal looks, fuelled by our expertise in couture and attention to detail.”
#9 What other designers inspire you?
“Well. I’m not in a competition with anyone, I like a few designers, but I want my own story and my own touch in this industry, walking hand-in-hand with my daughter, showing and teaching her my skills and life experiences.”
